If you search for an address not per the map, but per a

Dostoevsky novel, topography will start distorting.

One street will become indecently short,

while another, the softie, will stretch, then stretch more,

and a single crime happen at three addresses simultaneously.

Reality—as you might phps

call it—gets left in the lurch.

We would have liked to see the panorama

of Delft the way Vermeer saw this thing.

But the river was running not the way it should,

parallel streets intersected, the architecture

had shrugged off its gothic, and now it was plain to us: we

would only get to see Vermeer’s panorama of paradise

when prostrate before a Petersburg non-existent church.

Достоевского - топография пойдет веером.
Та улица станет неприлично коротка,
а та удлиняется, удлиняется, дура,
и одно преступление происходит сразу по трем адресам.

Так наз. реальность
оборачивается срамом.

Мы хотели увидеть панораму
Дельфта, увиденную Вермеером.
Но не туда текла река,
параллельные улицы пересекались, архитектура
отряхивала готику, и стало ясно,

что увидеть вермеерову панораму рая
можно, только грохнувшись перед несуществующим в Петербурге храмом.
